When I first met Maddie in person for a coffee and she described her hopes for her big day, I was all-in right from the start. Every part of her day felt right up my alley. The family farm just outside Grongy where she grew up was the canvas for a big country party full of big feels with all the people that mattered. I feel like it’s a priceless gift when the people who care about you the most, throw a party for you all by themselves. I can’t even begin to wrap my head around how much effort went into this day. From the literal acres of turf specially laid and cared for to the back paddock full of canola in full bloom, everything was connected in a way that felt like I was at home straight away. Not even the freak rainstorm deterred us a single bit. People out here are built for those challenges. We just got out in the mud and made the best of it. To be honest, it turned out better anyway.
In the middle of a wedding day, it can get quite isolating for me as I spend vast amounts of time on the sidelines concentrating as hard as I can. But I distinctly remember this day being very different. I had so many great chats with heaps of friendly family members and guests who made a point of saying hello. It truly does make all the difference to just hear a kind voice in my ear once in a while. I left that night thinking these two are very lucky to be surrounded by so many people who care about them and their life together so much.
I was also thinking about the groomsman who took his shirt off in the proper photos. What a weapon. There needs to be more of this. Also these guys had a roaming street magician for cocktail hour. He literally blew my mind into a thousand pieces. What a freak!
Thanks Dan and Maddie for having me along and trusting me so much. You guys are truly the best. I’m sorry your dress got so dirty Maddie but you know what they say… if your dress isn’t dirty, you didn’t party hard enough!
